Phase III Report
The report provides an overview of gender-related issues in the Arctic, including Law & Governance; Security; Gender and Environment; Migration and Mobility; Indigeneity, Gender, Violence, and Reconciliation; and Empowerment and Fate Control.
In May 2021 a virtual launch event on the Pan-Arctic Report was hosted by the Wilson Center’s Polar Institute, with The Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Iceland, The Icelandic Arctic Council Chairmanship, the Icelandic Arctic Cooperation Network, the Stefansson Arctic Institute, the Directorate of Equality in Iceland, and the Institute of Arctic Studies at Dartmouth. The GEA Project started in 2013 to promote a dialogue on gender equality in the Arctic region and to raise awareness of the situation of women and men in the Arctic.
2013 - 2015 Project partners in the circumpolar region joined hands to organize the international conference Gender Equality in the Arctic – Current realities, future challenges. The outcome of this phase is the published report on Gender Equality in the Arctic.
2017 - 2019 The Project’s Website was developed to promote and expand the dialogue on Gender Equality in the Arctic. The formal Network of organizations engaged in gender equality issues in the Arctic was created. The database of published materials was collected.
2019 - 2021 This phase falls under the priority People and Communities of the Arctic which includes initiatives that aim to promote the wellbeing of the roughly four million people living in the region. The GEA Times blog and newsletter were established.
2022-2025 Phase IV of the GEA project consists of two components which build on previous findings relating to the mainstreaming of gender-based analysis in the Arctic and address themes of particular importance identified by GEA’s Indigenous partners, respectively.

All eight Arctic states are represented among topics of the Published Materials.
The GEA Times serves as a venue for us, and you, to contribute to the discussion and to put focus on gender equality in the Arctic, and to promote events and material related to Arctic gender equality.
Networks and Projects across the Arctic and beyond engaged in issues of gender and equality in the region. This includes organizations, institutions projects (both active and completed) involved in Arctic gender equality, gender issues, youth and/or Indigenous peoples issues.
